Setting up e-mail accounts on Microsoft Outlook Express (PC)
The following steps will guide you through successfully setting up Microsoft Outlook Express. Read Carefully and do not type the text within the examples, use your own information as supplied.
- Open Outlook Express and go to the 'Tools' menu and select 'Accounts' from the list
- In the 'Internet Accounts' window, click on 'Add' and select 'Mail...' from the options
- Enter the name you wish to use in 'Display name'. Click Next »
- If prompted to do so, make sure you tick: 'I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use' and in the space provided, enter the e-mail address you wish to use. Click Next »
- Ensure POP3 is selected in the 'Incoming mail server' list. Then for both the incoming (POP3) and outgoing mail (SMTP) enter: mail.yourdomain.com (NOTE: mail DOT your own domain name). Click Next »
- In the 'Account name' box enter: the full Username supplied. In the 'Password' box enter: the Password as supplied. Tick the 'Remember password' box. Note: Pay close attention to upper/lowercase and spelling
- Click 'Finish'
After configuring your mail settings, you will need to configure your Outgoing Mail Server settings to use 'Authentication' as follows:
- If you closed the Internet Accounts box, go to 'Tools' menu and select 'Accounts'. Choose the mail account you just created from the list, and/or then click on 'Properties'
- Click the 'Servers' tab and tick the 'My server requires authentication' box, then click on 'Settings...'
- Ensure the 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' box is checked
- Click 'OK' and 'Apply' the new settings
Test the account by sending a test message to an outside account and see if you can receive returned mail as well.
