Setting up e-mail accounts on Mac OSX10.2 using Jaguar Mail

Apple's Mail program supports POP3, IMAP and local UNIX mail accounts. It has multiple account support; mail rules for creating filters and uses the Mac OS X system wide address book.

  1. Click on the Mail icon to launch mail
  2. Go to the 'Mail' menu and select 'Preferences...'
  3. In the preferences select 'Accounts' and then click 'Add Account'
  4. Fill in your mail account information as supplied
  5. Enter the correct Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server as yourdomain.com preceded by 'mail.' (note the dot)
  6. Click on the 'Options' button and reference the mail server table for the correct Outgoing Mail Server Port: 25. 'Use Secure Sockets Layer' should be unchecked, Authentication should be set to Password and enter the Username (you@yourdomain.com) and Password supplied
  7. Click on OK

Setting special mailboxes to your own preference:

  1. Click on OK and 'Advanced'
  2. Check the first three boxes and set the drop down box to at least 'One week'
  3. Port should be 110 and leave SSL unchecked. Authentication should be your Password
  4. Click on OK to finish

Now test that you can send and receive e-mail.
